LEADER Projects Round 7

Innovation Area ‘Cohesive and Sustainable Rural Communities’

Equibuddy – Innovation and Development

The aim of this project is to create 2 mobile Equibuddy units which can be loaned out, long term, to riding centres within the Borders.  The Equibuddy horses are trained for 2 types of vaulting (gymnastics on horseback), very low level work with disabled young people, and vaulting as a sporting activity for non-disabled children. When the mobile units go to the riding centres, the centres will be able to offer Equibuddy sessions  to the disabled young people but can also run vaulting events, have a go days and vaulting clubs which can be charged for. The revenue from the sports vaulting and club fees will go back to Equibuddy to continue the project in the future and to subsidise the charitable work.   (£82,532)

South of Scotland Creative Enterprise Initiative

The project aims to strengthen the creative industry in the South of Scotland and to foster and support an entrepreneurial approach. (£50,000).
